Doknow & Da Hawmies provide their own LA soundtrack
Born and raised in Echo Park, CA, DoKnow was initially known for tagging, an integral part of the city’s culture. Today, he's known for his hilariously relatable skits that have gone viral across all media platforms amassing over 1.5 million followers and tens of millions of views in the process. His main goal as an entertainer was to not be boxed into one category, whether that category be stand-up comedian, social media influencer, rapper, actor, he wants to do all the above and is currently doing so.
In 2020, Doknow began recording music and decided he wanted to create his own soundtrack to Los Angeles from him and his homies point of view. Through this outlet his creative expression began. From the album cover down to the production you are forced to see Los Angeles through the lenses of a 90026 native. “Doknow & Da Hawmies” is them painting portraits of Los Angeles with stolen MTN 94 spray cans and no regard for gentrifying hipsters who never leave the thirty mile zone.
The 11 track album has guest appearances from local acts and close friends Doeman, Dener, Double P, Coyote, Yelo Hill, N7, Pwap, Widit, Peysoh, ITBEMG, and Da Hawmies. The project features production from Cypress Moreno, Matt Brick$, Coreycail, Prez Sinatra, 10Grand, Cashbah, OTM, Don Alfonso, and DJ Icee.
The standout singles include the remix to his hometown anthem "Section" which features energetic rap duo N7 & Pwap from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, "Filet Mignon" featuring Indonesian-American newcomer Jakarta $lim, "Holding On" featuring 17 year old phenom Peysoh. No song represents the project's theme of LA street life, hood love stories, and old school flavor better than "City Of Angels" featuring Dener, Coyotes, Yelo Hill and Jakarta $lim which samples the inescapable 90's hit, Zhanè's "Hey Mr. DJ".
