In case you didn’t know, Cali is where it’s at! Palm trees, pop-up shops, the fashion scene, food trucks and of course, a buzzing indie artist scene.

Without a doubt, ethereal singer Nichola is one of the city’s newer artists with an enchanting voice. Her EP 333 (pronounced Trinity) was one of the highlights through a dull pandemic year. Currently, the angelic singer is on the cusp of releasing her sophomore project.

The “Come Over” singer-songwriter reflects with REMIXD Magazine on her favorite artists, music she enjoys, how she serendipitously came up with her project’s title, the importance of having like-minded people when building, being aligned, and always leading with love.

Check out the awesome interview below:

What city are you from / where are you based now ?

I’m from Bellflower, California, but living between Mexico, CA, & NY .

What is my artist name ? What is my real name? Where’d you get your artist name ?

My name is Nichola which means victory of the people. I use my birth name because that is the embodies who I am and what I am here for.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar to you ?

I’d say my voice had a very angelic sound. Something you can vibe and chill too. Can definitely get be R&B, Neo Soul, & Lofi sound.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you ?

Music has always played a huge role in my life, especially with being able to creatively express myself with no limits. It’s honestly therapy, and something I’ve always been drawn to since I was a child. A lot of my experiences growing up music just adds so much soul to everything. It brings people together, and most of all my family. It’s nostalgic.

Who are some of your main musical influences ? Steeve Sam, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Les Nubians, Aaliyah, Sault, Floetry, and I definitely love all the artists coming out of the UK! I love the whole 80s & 90s era as most artists had their own sound & you could really feel their feelings. All authentic, and the lyrics have so much wisdom to them. Poets, writers, painters, and my dope ass family & friends. Who are all artistically inspiring.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting ? What inspired this project ? My project is 333 , and you pronounce it as trinity. It represents angelic numbers , and means various things depending on what speaks to your heart. I had just finished recording my EP at the EDRC studio, and was thinking of what to name my EP. I looked on the screen and 333 popped up. My producer & brother Corey Cvil gave me the idea instead of saying it as 333 we should pronounce it as trinity. I inspired this project , the younger me. The dreamer and lover in me. Expressing & embodying all parts of me.

Date the project dropped ?

It dropped on 09/25/20 the weekend of my birthday as a celebration and gift to myself.

What is this project about in your own words ?

It’s about really seeing myself. It’s about healing myself as when I wrote it I was really transmuting & really stimulating my mind , body , and soul. I felt alive. As I was moving in my purpose . Something that challenged me , and something that I did independently. Which is big for me. I was able to release , and simply be me. With writing , singing , recording , and cultivating creativity and authenticity. All along really believing in myself . Doing this for yourself just hits different, and takes you to places that exist only with love and authenticity. I was able to work with people that I grew up with , as well as get acquainted with creatives and artists who are aligned with the same path. It’s so important to empower and support those who I’ve grown up with , as well as those that I met. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The creative community is so important to me. As we help bring color to the world & add perspectives.

What’s next for you ? Are you working on any upcoming projects ?

So I’m currently writing for my next release. It’s giving an EP with 8 songs, and singles being dropped. I’ve been saving up , and going at my rhythm. As well as resting it’s so important because I want things to flow naturally. My life experiences inspire me. I’m being patient with my craft , and expanding on my lyrics. Quality to me is everything. These next drops are really personal to me, as I always want to express myself from an authentic space.

What message do you hope your fans take away from your music and project ?

To always lead with love, and to simply be and express themselves unapologetically. That if your intention is pure, and is for you. You will always receive blessings that are for you. Your vision is for you, and not anyone else’s. Anything that you dreamed of doing as a child is possible, and can make happen. To not be hard on yourself , and to be limitless. To not have expectations, and to simply love what you are doing. You are the creator and the creation. Take time to see yourself, and heal yourself. As well as celebrate yourself more often. You’re 1 of 1.
