What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

Born, raised, and currently residing in Jersey.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?

My artist name is Sinque (pronounced Sin Q)which happens to be my real name. I was given a name that is very unique, and I’ve always gone through my entire life with nobody ever pronouncing my name correctly, and I’ve never met anyone else with my name. So, not to toot my own horn, but I believe my name is enough for an “artist name.”

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?

It had to be around the time I was a teenager. I always had a passion and love for music, but was always too shy to express that to people, because it was always met with “well what’s your plan B?” So it wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I truly developed a sense of self and confidence that I had been lacking for so long, and with the persuasion and help of my dad, I went full speed ahead into my pursuit of music.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

Absolutely! I have always been a sensitive person, (I’m a pisces lol) so therefore I would always get bullied growing up for being soft spoken, reserved, and shy. So I always kind of hid my emotions in fear that I would be humiliated, so when I became a teenager I got into the art of poetry and began to express myself that way. The poetry then transformed into song lyrics and I started to create my own melodies to the poems I was writing. I also grew up with A LOT of R&B in the house, so R&B music is near and dear to my heart, however as i got older i began to discover other types of music that i really enjoyed, and i would say to myself i want to create all of these different sounds of music.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

I would say my sound is old school fused with new school, a lot of my music is R&B based with pop infused. I love to experiment with different sounds and producers so I wouldn’t say I have a signature sound just yet, however I am finding my sweet spot in the music I’m creating and really elevating the things I have done previously, however this time with much more confidence.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

Creating music makes me feel like a superhero, it’s my superpower that nobody can take from me, and ever since I was a child, I wanted to create things. I never truly fit in with anyone around me and always felt like an outcast, even to this day. Once I discovered poetry, that really helped me express myself and naturally I began to sing out loud my emotions and I just began to connect with the “music” I was creating to help heal myself. Once I realized how much creating music was helping me cope mentally, I decided it was time to take it seriously. I would always sing covers for IG and YouTube and became tired of singing other people’s songs, so I said to myself, let me take my poems and songs I’ve written and sing them over an instrumental, and I have never looked back since.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

Music heals, it’s therapeutic for a lot of people and music has ultimately saved my life. So what inspires me is the power that music holds to help people. I’m inspired by life, family, and friends that surround me, and I tend to incorporate all of those things into my songs. It’s a way for me to express how I feel without saying too much, and I always say I live vicariously through my songs! So it’s a form of escape for me.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I do! lol well besides working out vigorously, i love art. I love to draw and paint and I would say I’m pretty decent at it. It helps keep my mind stimulated and sometimes it helps me recharge before I go into creating another music project.

What were you doing before music?

Writing poems, going to school, going to work, etc. “normal” things. lol.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

MARIAH CAREY! is my number one lol! Besides her being the vocal titan that she is, I admire her songwriting and producing skills. I would also say Bobby Womack, Bruno Mars, The Dream, Ne-Yo, Beyonce, T-Pain, Selena, there’s just too many to name lol.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?

To make an impact, I once heard the goal is “not to live forever, but to create something that will.” So I hope to have a successful career that can exceed me. I want to create music that can touch and heal people, and make people want to laugh, cry, love, just every emotion. I want people to think of my music and it makes them feel okay inside. I hope to one day be someone’s favorite artist.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

My new project is called “Crybaby” and it is my baby! My single “Crybaby” speaks to me on so many levels. I wrote it almost a year ago at this point, and finished recording it around March. What inspired the record was my life as a child who felt unheard, when you hear the song in its essence, it’s a love song, but for me personally it’s more of a love letter to my childhood. It’s all the things I wish someone would have said to me as a child and a teenager when I truly needed it. So the song is very personal for me and I hope when others hear it they enjoy it!

What is this project about in your own words?

Freedom, it’s about expressing any emotion you may have been told is not appropriate. It’s taking back your freedom and getting back to the person you were before society intervened.

Is there a specific song on this project that speaks to you most? If so, what’s It called and what’s it about?

Yes, and that is “Crybaby” the lead single. It is about letting go, and knowing that it is okay to let go.

What’s one of your most proud moments of your music career so far?

I will humbly say, when i reached 50k streams on my EP “The Ballad of Loverboy” which i put out last year. That is definitely a milestone for me. I thank every single soul that listened.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

There is ALOT coming down the pipeline lol. I have been away from music for 9 months and i am more than ready to share all i’ve been working on, so i all i will say, if you care, is to stay tuned from now until the end of the year!

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

Well I hope to at least gain supporters, I don’t really like the word “fans” lol and for anyone out there who takes the time to listen, i just hope they appreciate the music for what it is and are encouraged to follow all the dreams and goals they aspire for.
