Maths Time Joy taps Rich for a new introspective track, “Childhood”

Maths Time Joy shares the latest cut from his incredible collaborative project with New York based artist Rich. ‘Childhood’ comes as the fifth single to be unveiled ahead of the EP, penned for release on the 29th of October.

A lush soundscape of intoxicating vocals, seamless production and soothing synths, this latest offering is a stellar edition to the already impressive string of collaborative releases. Written as a homage to Rich’s younger self, the track reflects on the plucky carefree nature he had as a kid, sharing more, Rich explained: “I’m not sure I’ve ever felt quite as fearless as when I was a kid before I hit puberty. I wrote this song because I think my current self could learn a lot from little Rich.”.

Grammy-nominated producer Maths Time Joy and much acclaimed artist Rich have been quickly growing a reputation for their winning combination of flawless vocal talent and weightless, abstract production. The pair have already scooped support from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, American Songwriter, Equate, Wonderland, Early Rising and Notion, not to mention a wealth of playlisting support across DSPs and love from the likes of Radio 1’s chillest record, Radio 4’s Iconic show Loose Ends and Elton John’s Rocket hour who coined their sound ‘Sensational’’.

Childhood follows on from their immersive last single ‘Move’, a favourite from the EP and the only track to be written in person. Aside from Move, the collaboration has been done entirely remotely, driven by the pair’s unmistakable musician chemistry. Sharing ideas back and forth they clearly found the magic formula for remote collaboration. Sharing a little more on the process of Childhood, MTJ explained: “Childhood started out as a chord loop idea that I sent to rich. A week or so later he sent it back with a hook written to it. I knew when I heard the story and the lyrics what direction I wanted to take it, for me I liked the idea of blending the gospel inspired chords with some more Paul Simon inspired guitar sections”

Despite the global pandemic bringing most things to a standstill, the last year has been more than eventful for Maths Time Joy. Last August he stunned listeners with the release of Real Deal, a soulful offering laced with the immaculate dual vocals of Sinead Harnett and J Warner. This was followed by the infectious ‘Two Steps’ feat.Kevin Garrett, the blissful ‘Fall Back’ feat. Matt Woods and more recently ‘Heavy On My Mind’ featuring RITUAL.

These recent releases have racked up millions of streams already and have received much critical acclaim from the likes of Wonderland, Clash, Complex, Ones To Watch and many more.

Connecticut-born, New York-based artist Rich has also defied the challenges of the pandemic. Rich began his artistry as one-third of Universal-signed group Thirdstory who toured, wrote with and produced for Chance the Rapper, whilst Rich also formed one half of a trans-Atlantic, more experimental project going by the name Refs – a collaboration with Berlin-based producer Zach Lipkins. Amongst launching his own solo project this year Rich has also organically racked up over 6.6 Million likes & 374k followers on Tik Tok and has had co-signs from the likes of James Blake, Hayley Williams & Justin Vernon.

Maths Time Joy is one of the UKs most multifaceted talents, a grammy nominated recording artist, producer and DJ. Teamed with the unmistakable, widely acclaimed talent of Rich, the pair have a winning formula that is not to be missed.
