New Music Friday: 10 new songs you should check out
Happy New Music Friday! Here's everything you need to listen to from this week.
Lil Durk, Young Thug, and 6lack join forces for ”Stay Down,” a catchy track that pulls from each artist's strength creating instant chemistry. Lil Durk's introductory verse sees him using his trademark choppy flow to make the listener's head nod. 6lack deviates from his usually slow singing style to make a faster, yet still very much R&B influenced chorus. Thugger caps the track off with a quality singing performance.
Hotboii has been crowned the next rising star from Florida with his hit song "Don't Need Time.” The Orlando native's new track mixes an introspective chorus with catchy lyrics over a bouncing, bass-heavy beat for easily one of the best singles he's dropped since his May 2020 album Kut Da Fan On.
Up and coming R&B singer Sainvil's track "Boxed In" is combines gutwrenching lyrics and shimmering vocals for a truly special performance. At first blush, the Miami native delivers a moody R&B track. However, deeper digging reveals him conveying the struggles of being Black in America well disguised by a sensual R&B beat.
Canadian Singer Savannah Ré is angelic on her newest cut "Solid.” Her airy vocals and substantive, drum-heavy instrumental are sweet, crisp, and serve as the perfect background music for everything from a romantic getaway to a late night in your bag.
Southern heavyweights Blac Youngsta, Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, and the song's namesake, producer Tay Keith, team up for a boisterous, braggadocious, gun-toting anthem. Baby, Moneybagg, and Youngsta practically beat the Tay Keith instrumental into submission with their high-energy flows.
Dua Lipa teams up with Belgian pop sensation Angelé for the shimmery, sensual cut "Fever.” Despite international acclaim, Angelé is relatively unknown in the states but goes toe-to-toe with Dua Lipa making for an instant hit.
Lil Keed is the heir apparent to Young Thug's "Young Stoner Life" empire and collabs with his mentor on "Wanna See You.” The oozing instrumental pairs with Keed and Thug's slow crooning makes the listener feel like they're melting ... but in the best way possible.
King Von is flat out ruthless on "The Code" with Polo G. Von is known for his extraordinarily aggressive flow and violent lyrics but his newest cut seems to take the cake. The picture that the Chicago rapper paints of his violent lifestyle is horrifying but equally as intoxicating. The song is a surefire standout off of his new album, Welcome to O Block.
Singer Queen Naija teams up with Kiana Ledé for their sensual song "I'm Her.” Naija's harmonizing, sappy vocals and emotional lyrics are soulful yet super catchy. Kiana Ledé's vocals are equally as crisp and the pair stun the listener throughout the song. "I'm Her" is the third track on her new album missunderstood that dropped today.
Despite being raised in Florida, $NOT's newest cut "Like Me" featuring iann dior is heavily influenced by a bouncy California sound. However, this sonic choice somehow works perfectly with $NOT's borderline emo vocals and iann dior's guest verse which is even closer to emo. This track comes from his debut album Beautiful Havoc that dropped today.
